Pub Jukebox / Re: Easy search for karaoke tracks
« Last post by tye3333 on April 27, 2021, 02:34:18 AM »
Hi,
Maybe I can help elaborate on what Jason’s point is as I feel I maybe having the same problem.

As good as the pub jukebox software is, it is no good for playing karaoke tracks or for a karaoke party because when the karaoke genre is turned on the karaoke tracks become lost within normal tracks.  The biggest problem is when using the search function or looking for a track via "artist a-z" there is no indication what a karaoke track is or not.  The only way to guarantee a track is karaoke is to go to "tracks a-z" and pick the "Karaoke" genre, but then you have to scroll through pages of unsortable tracks to find the one you want.
This causes our users to experience the problem of;

1) having to go artist to artist to try and find if a karaoke track exists for that artist (and sometimes still been unsure)
2) having to scroll 1000's of karaoke tracks under “artist a-z” to find the right song and not knowing if the even exists on the system.
3) using search to try and find a karaoke track but unsure if search results are karaoke or not
4) using search to find a karaoke track but returning 2 tracks with the same title, one normal one karaoke but unsure what one is what
5) with no short cut key, the karaoke mode is not easily turned on/off in a locked-out kiosk mode.  this can cause the mode to be left on and customers selecting a karaoke track by accident not knowing it’s a karaoke track.

I know it is possible to change title card colour and/or change the title card photo to say, "karaoke track", but this can be tedious to setup and for a drunk patron this sometimes is not enough.

My personal suggestions for the most easy and efficient way to try and remedy the situation would be to;

1)Add a shortcut key to turn karaoke on and off
2)Add an option that, when karaoke genre is on, all other genres are off to create the karaoke party theme.
3)Different pricing options for playing a karaoke track compared to a regular track.

I am sure I am not the only one waiting for changes around the karaoke options.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Steve, just wondering if Bry had a look at this.  Here is a photo of my working Jukebox all set up now!

The large screen is permanent (it weighs over 40kg!) and the smaller touch panel is removable as it is not weather proof.

Hmmm, it could be going into whats called a 'race condition' when idle, I dunno I will have to wait for our Bry to have a look and see, give me a nudge next week and I will try to get him to have a look...

thinking about what i said above, that would also explain why switching them off and not restarting the program doesnt cause a crash, as it would already have run the initialisation.

Yes, it is odd in the sense that the condition is failing where it doesnt need to do anything isnt it.  you would think it would be along the lines of

If adverts are on then play adverts
otherwise do nothing.

The reason the external monitor appeared to be the issue is because it always froze on the "between tracks" screen; as I guess thats when the adverts are set to run and the code is executed.

Its possible there is some code to initialise the adverts that is skipped on loading the program as "off" is selected and then that the condition to check before actually playing them at certain points (between tracks) isnt there or working and is therefore calling something that was not initialised.  That would lead to an error/crash.
