Ok, I've checked for you, there is nothing in the VBX shutdown options that should cause the freeze, so I'm guessing you might have buggered your registry or config file somehow.
I think our Bry's JBP tool has been set to check for updates (mistake) thats why it's trying to get a connection, if you dont have a net connection handy it will be prety easy for a guy like you to delete the config file maually, simply navigate to:- (C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\ ~\VideoBox.exe_Url_jcnb1du3j21qwwvfnbecfyiueq4yxij1\2.7.0.0)
Your path will not be exactly the same as above but will be very similar, basically the config file is in your windows 'AppData' folder.
Give that a go...
