« on: January 26, 2012, 09:20:07 PM »
been playing about with sub folders and very impressed BUT when you do the sub
genres say rock and you are looking at 3 or 5 genres theres a empty looking page
is it possible to maybe custum the size or something not sure what the answer to
this problem would be just looks half finnished  ??? or could the sub folders open
up on the genre bar  ??? sorry to be a pain  ::)

I then "copied" tracks from my albums into these subgenres.
This is why I requested a feature to stop duplicate file names from showing in search results.
This way you could double up a track in genres and when you search you would only get the one result?

problem is you can only stretch them so far
i just dont want pages of empty looking selections makes it look crap

so maybe some sort of custum art work  ??? maybe this is quite a tricky one dj

I had the opposite problem on some genres and some that werent full enough. Guess thats more down to the size of 'your' library and how 'you' organise your tracks.
This is what's so good about the update. It opens up lots of options for viewing your tracks.
What I did was divide my music into 3 main type.
1.album CDs
2.compilation CDs
3.other

Then for albums - c:\jbp\Genre\Album Artist\Album\tracks.mp3
For compilations - c:\jbp\Genre\Various Artists\Album\tracks.mp3
Then singles and other odd ripped files go - c:\jbp\Genre\Artist\Other\tracks.mp3

I also have the special categories like "my favourite tracks" and "Top Artist" in each Genre.
So my hip hop looks like this.

What is it your struggling with ?
Is it just moving the files ?
Or just knowing what to put where?
I used this as a guide for which artist goes where .

I have a few handy tools that I use too
File2folder , which does what says really.

Rockbox album art extractor , which extracts embedded album art to folder.jpg

And of course media monkey - my fav. Which does both of the above and more.
I use media monkeys to move tracks from folder to folder.

thanks for the genres link thats cool

folder to folder-i use winrar for that and tag and rename to create folder from embedded art
but thanks
im not short of software or how to do stuff its the layout of things basicly ideas oh and time
as this is going to be a long haul of a job my main thing dj is to make it look cool not messy
dont expect every page to be filled in far from it i think vjb takes 15 covers for a full page i dont
have a genere with 15 sub genres dont think i know one that that does so thats what were up against
