Thanks Steve for your reply.

Yes, I can see the advantages of having a standalone PC just for Home Jukebox (or any of your jukebox programs).  I am thinking along the lines of getting a mini PC with an additional SSD for storage, or, maybe a NAS device.  It would serve as a sort of backup having a copy of the music on more than one machine, considering the amount of time and effort put into tagging and structuring my music collection.

I have 2 other PC's that I would like to re-purpose but they are getting on a bit.  Do you think Home Jukebox could run
on a Linux distro with WINE ?  Just a thought.

Most of our jukebox products 'hook' the system keyboard at a low level, it kind of get's inbetween windows and the keyboard, this is to ensure that no input is lost if the program doesnt have focus, this is mostly important when credits and cash are involved.
I know it can be a pain when you use your jukebox as a side program, but you will appreciate it when you build a standalone machine  ;D

Just an update to this issue:

I notice that pressing a PC key while focussed / working within another program, directly effects Home Jukebox when it should be just working as a background task.

I.e  As I am writing this post, if I press the 'tab' key, HJ springs into life and enters the 'User Menu' screen.  Indeed, pressing the 'enter' key (as you would when typing) and HJ responds with the 'Search' option screen.

However, after a short period, HJ stops responding to PC keyboard presses even after clicking on the mouse to bring the program into focus.  The mouse still works but essentially the program needs a restart to bring back all functionality.

Home Jukebox / Request for a 'Play All' button with 'Shuffle' mode option...
« Last post by MikeUK on February 19, 2022, 03:20:30 PM »

May I put forward a program enhancement request for 'Home Jukebox' ?

My request is to have a 'Play All' button appear along with an option to toggle on/off 'Shuffle' play mode?  These options can be hidden by default and placed within the Home Jukebox 'setup screen' as is done for the 'Reject Track' button.

Examples where this would be useful (IMO) are as follows:-

1. Specific album by an artist.

If I drill down to Fleetwood Mac album Rumours, I would like the option to play all 11 tracks in sequence, that is tracks '01' sequentially through to track '11'.

I have placed the 2 digit track number at the start of the all the track titles within this album to ensure the tracks appear on screen in track order sequence, whether drilling down to that album by artist or using the search by 'Album' option.

The only option at present is to manually select each track individually to play in sequence.  This is cumbersome task and prone to mistakes.  Without the 'track number' identification in the title, looking at the current playlist, it would be impossible to tell which track to add next to the playlist or identify track selection sequence errors.

2. Random play by genre / artist / folder.

If I select a specific genre, where there are lots of track selections, it would be great to have the option to 'Play All' tracks as they are sequenced within that list, or, toggle 'Shuffle' mode on, and play all tracks within that selection in a random sequence.

I have a music folders (genres) by 'artist collection', 'specific year' or 'Compilation Album' amongst others.  It would be great to have the option to 'play all' tracks within those selections in the sequence as they are ordered and appear on the screen or in 'Shuffle' mode.

Anyone else have a use for 'Play All' and 'Shuffle' play mode?

I've always had a sort of 'Decades' folder structure even when using my favourite PC media player 'J River Media Jukebox' from my Windows Vista system days, which stills runs great on Windows 10 but no longer supported.

I put my selected favourite tracks into say 1970s/1977 directory and made sure all imported tracks here had both the YEAR tag correctly set and that the individual track TITLE names contained the year as text as appropriate e.g. '(1977)'.  This aids searching for tracks by title in a specific year and playing them in shuffle mode.

I notice that 'Home Jukebox' does not have a search button for  'Year' but searching by title for '1977' works just as well for me.  If I search for titles with '197' then I get all tracks tagged 1970 to 1979.

I will experiment with your suggested setup to get sub-genre's '80s Pop', '80s Rock' etc...

Thanks Steve for the reply.

Yes, I have 6 buttons that work for sure and are colour coded to reflect they operate.
CLOSED (i.e. 'MODE')

BGM - Not sure if this function works, need to experiment further.
DOOR - Does not work for me - to go into 'Setup'.

Talking about getting into 'Setup' using Chrome Remote Desktop for Android, I was finding it impossible to send a TAB key when using any virtual keyboard.  I have 'Hacker's Keyboard' on my Android Note 4 and I discovered accidently that it allows pressing CTRL followed by the TAB key.  On my Android Box, Chrome Remote Desktop does not offer a virtual keyboard.

Also check that the button names on the remote match the available commands for Home Jukebox, you can see all the commands you can use on the left hand side of the page in the android remote section (about half way down the page) here:-

I have my music in decades like 70's, 80's 90's etc and then just have subgenre's like 80s Pop, 80s Rock etc, this way you dont have all the dracks dumped in one large genre.
Also if you look in the settings there is a switch that you can use to select navigation method, track/album.
