PC Jukebox speaker options
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:19:04 AM »
Hey guys, i recently bought myself 5 empty fibreglass shells that i'm converting into touch screen jukeboxes. I have the computers, music, software and touchscreens installed but i'm stuck on a viable option for speakers.

My original plan was to use 10" powered speaker cabs (the kind dj's or musicians would use at gigs), a single speaker in each jukebox not a pair as they wouldnt fit.

This seem to be my easiest and cheapest option so far as they'll just plug straight into the sound card of the pc via rca cables and i can set the volume at a safe level then lock the jukebox up so no one can play with them once i leave.

After viewing a couple of Steves homemade jukes i noticed its possible to use car amps and speakers......just wondering what the go with this is, do i need any special extra's to hook it up to my pc (power convertor or something).

wouldnt advise a speaker in the same cab as the screen as i found out some years back as soon as you
get a high bass level the vibebration sends the screen wackey very bad idea

Ahhhh ok, well heres the cabs i'll be using>

Inside is empty, however there is a metal floor pan and frame from floor to bottom of screen inside for mounting shelfs etc for pc.

The speakers i was considering are these>

These would be bolted directly to the floor so they dont move around :)

also advise you use a 500 watt or more psu and you could run a decent car amp from that and your
pc but might also require a ground loop isolater for noise filtering

yep thats my alternative to the powered speaker............depends on costs really.

The powered speaker seems to be the cheapest and easiest way to do them at $125 each, as opposed to costs for car speakers, amp, isolator and bigger psu. + the drama of cutting holes in the cabs (which are fibreglass) and installing the speakers flush (these boxes arent really flat anywhere on the outside).
