id like to see support for .swf files for the adverts as this would allow me to import The .swf graphics i already have rather than trying to convert them to a set of jpegs or gif images. Actually what format is the Videobox Ad Video? and direct itunes support so i dont have to convert my itunes purchases, M4a and the like which is actually quite a task seeing as m4a tracks come with no id3 info so media monkey and the like struggle a bit with converting and renaming tracks to my liking. ;D
-
Agreed, the most time consuming part of operating this jukebox software is the converting from apple's file format. The videos are the worst, because of the time it takes too!
Plus, finding the artwork in the itunes folders is not always easy either, as it cleverly hides them all over the place.
Some help here would be appreciated.
-
gud to see u about again rob. :-\
yh its a long process and most people seem to use itunes as their primary source of legal downloads these dayz.
-
Hi Dj & Rob
Are the itunes '.AAC' files ?
-
watchout dj for mp3 police :o
-
Hi John
Whats the mp3 police lol ????
-
just joking with dj i also told him to be aware of the xp police regarding
tiny xp the dude realy should relax instead of spending his money he
must be on a mega wage lol ::)
-
John
Yeah he's probably loaded lol, have you seen that tablet PC of his, prettty impressive, I want one. :D
Ps: do you know anything about these itunes files, are they .aac format ?
-
yes there acc im sure there a codec for wmp that plays them if thats the case
vjb should play maybe ??? also the flac files seem to be getting very popular
might be worth looking into that also
-
Did you mean AAC ?, Never heard of those flac files, who uses them ?
-
sorry acc flac is a nonlossy file as mp3 is a lossy file as your aware of
flac doesnt lose any quality as in cd quality but the downer was say a
album ripped at 320kbs would take up maybe 140mbs same album
in flac would take up 400mbs but now we use large drives this is not
a problem new laptops and pcs come with 320gb to 500gb drives with
hd sound quality its just how it is these days
do a google on flac and you will see steve got to keep up with the times
dude
-
Ok John, thanks for that, i'l see if I can get my hands on some of those files and have a play with them.
-
ok steve are we due a update re wish lists stuff or you keeping that hush hush ;D

I've just found myself witha bit of spare time while the new Kim replacement boards are in production, so I have decided to have a quick look at the wish list to see if there are any suggestions that could be quickly implimented in the short time I have available.
-
cool dude we are rotten do put the pressure on you lol
cheers steve

Loaded , i Wish!
I think videobox is now delivering a more than decent jukebox experience for home users and pro's alike.
It is very stable and straightforward to use, and with the addition of the new Kim board it will be even more so.
To my knowledge there is no other software out there that can do what videobox does aswell as be this user friendly in setup and configuration. I find a lot of the softwares available are overkill and have many features a lot of users would never use, whereas videobox pretty much does what it says on the tin without much fuss. And I like it this way. ;D
Too many more features and I feel we will lose the simplicity of the software which I feel is key for users and enthusiasts like myself who just have time to know enough, and not everything.
I'd really like the software to stay pretty much as is, with the addition of a few more file formats for not only music and video but also the adverts and artworks like the popular tracks pic. I think we are only really going to need the regular file types for media as in jpeg png bmp mp3 wav flac aac mp4 wma wmv etc etc and maybe the addition of high def video/audio formats would be needed in future.
Someone on the forum asked for a "please insert coin" screen when selecting tracks and no credit is entered. I believe this to be a must. Just my opinion.
Rhonda asked for an improved search with choice to search for artist or track before entering search criteria, this i think is not quite a must but would really help with large libraries but I don't think it quite falls into the " easy to add" category.
And I would like to see the play all from an album feature added, again this doesn't really seem to fall into the easy category either, but would be of great benefit to home Users.

:o square genre icons please :o

DJ
I've been looking at the AAC format, looks like it can be done, I just need to join Itunes to get some files to test it, or do you know where I can get any publicly available files I could use perhaps ?.
-
Public aac? Can we not just convert a public lossless file like .wav to .aac ?
-
As far as I understandi it, itunes files are in the aac format like 'song.aac' for example ?
-
steve try cd da extractor that will convert some files to aac to play with
http://www.poikosoft.com/ (http://www.poikosoft.com/)
-
Thanks John
Just got some test files from a website and I have managed to get them to play ok, I might still have to get some proper ones from itunes though, it seems unclear if the itunes ones are DRM locked or not ?.
-
im a no brainer when it comes to itunes im a mp3 guy mp3s are more user freindly
theres no barriers and there universal re players and software and if i played a aac
next to a mp3 im sure i couldnt tell the difference
-
Yeah John I'm prety much of the same mind, its just been suggested on the wish list so I thought I would investigate.
I have VBX playing an non protected aac file ok at the moment and thats fine so I will write it into the program.
If itunes files are DRM protected then that will have to be something to look at in the future I guess.
-
its what the younger supporters want and it does seem to be
popular mainly for purchasing music they seem to have got
the mark on that
-
Yeah, after a some digging ive found its a bit of a mess, with different file formats, and its hard to tell which are DRM protected and which arn't ???.
But, It looks like we can play unprotected audio content using the latest K-Lite codec pack 7, so I'm going to enable VBX to list tracks with the 'AAC' & 'M4A' filename extensions.

well its friday night wich means jukebox and beers slurp-hic

I think the above quote from Dj4nrv hits the nail right on the head, Videobox is exactly where it should be, easy to use, no complex procedures to get the software going, you put your music in album folders, press a few buttons and it just works.
And I agree that to add too much more unnecessary features or complexity to Videobox just for the sake of it would be going in the wrong direction..
So, I can tell you that we have consulted the wish list and identified about 10 changes that we want to make to Videobox that will be inkeeping with the above philosophy and provide new and interesting ways for you to use your software.
More detail soon.. stay tuned..
-
glad to hear you agree steve.
i myself have been guilty of asking for features which werent needed.
i guess its just too tempting having a wish list.... every idea gets put on there ....good or not.
but then thats the whole idea , getting other opinions to help move things forward i suppose.
any ideas on when we can expect confirmation on the new bits added and maybe some info on this new board. are we even still calling it KIM?
Will my old flash utility be useable with the new board?
;D
-
Hi Dj
Yes I think you got it spot-on, some of the suggestions are good practical ones, and some sound good until you try to write them into the program, thats usually where I realise that something wont work or just doesnt make sense.
Anyways, we have about 8 or 10 tweaks/features that will make it through and we are gonna test them over the next few weeks, If all goes well it would be ideal to release V2.6 at the same time as our new board.
The new board looks nothing like Kim, its smaller, lighter & easier to use, it just has an input for 1 (pulse) coin acceptor and will simply spit out an 'F1' (coin1) to your PC for each coin pulse it receives.
There are'nt any settings to change on the new board so you dont need any reflashing program or anything like that, the keycodes are fixed to match both JBP & VBX, plug & play ;D.
The idea with the new board is that it will be simple enough for noobs to play with :D, yet it has an interesting feature that I think old-hands like yourself will enjoy ;).
The board is expected sometime end of this month, in the meantime we have some tweaks to make to the firmware & the documentation to write up.
If all goes well it's lift-off around the end of October.
The name of the new board is 'Coin Kit' tm.
-
Nice. All sounds good to me.
Can't wait ;D
-
Guys & Gals
You dont have to wait any longer, I've decided to release Videobox V2.6 right now.
See my announcement for details & instructions.
Enjoy ;D
-
hi all,
did we get .swf support for ads?
-
:-\
-
Hi Dj
Think its section 2 of the Videobox manual, user attract file (my.html), why not embed your swf in the html web page!. :D
-
??? ??? HTML ??? embed ???
i was thinking more along the lines of sticking the .swf in a folder. :D
i really do need to no more about Html and flash though.......
i will let you know how i get on......
-
JPEG all the way....... Draw it in 'paint' add your photo etc. Stick it in the folder.......... Job done......... "NEXT"
-
jpegs are for amateurs !!! and you can't do video ads either with jpegs
-
Dj
Just tell me the name of your.swf file or attach it and I'l embed it in a html for you, its easy.
-
Alright Dj, no need to rub it in. But if I am honest, it's too much effort for me. I update the adverts and attracts every week.
I actually stole one idea of off here. I now do an advert with my chosen 'top track of the week' with the album art etc. Simple idea, but really effective. Top suggestion, but can't remember who did it, might have even been you!
-
yeah that was me.i did a quick mock up of one for the chase and status track just to see how the feature worked. glad you took it on board.
I actually got the idea from the sound leisure jukes. they have an album of the month category. and have an ad that shows the featured album for that month.
the SL ads are .swf too.
hence the request.
-
Anyone got the time to help me with a flash video or something for the adverts? I have no idea where to even start.
Should I firstly be looking to draw out some 'frames' of a moving image? like 5 or 6? is that how it works?
