HI John

I will try to help  ;), need a little clarification of the problem, you said "not searching", can you describe in more detail what happens when you type something in and then try to search ?.

My best thought for now is that you may have VBX searching in a diferent folder from where your music files are, did you update your music location recently or anything ?.

Ok John

Only 2 things spring to mind at the moment......

1. there are no music files in the music location you have set (most probable)

2. you typed a search term that cannot be found in your music filenames

if i reset the music directory to c\jbp vjb default sample music it works fine
however when i set it to d\jbp were all my albums are it loads them but will
not do a search on this drive  ??? just says nothing found

Ok John

I double-checked, there is nothing wrong with the program, so...

My best guess for now is that you have a problem in your folder structure, something like an extra level or something like (D:\JBP\JBP\ blah blah blah)

you may of already tried this but....
maybe one of buttons on your remote is in an always pressed/on state ???will it let you enter the search criteria??  try disconnecting the remote ?? strip it down to bare setup and hope it goes away then add stuff back until the fault returns??

this is a nightmare i have removed the remote and closed down my remapping
software also reinstaled vjb and just run xp repair option from disc just in case
its if the drive doesnt exsist need it up and running for weekend
its a stand alone jukebox its not connected to the internet the only thing
i can possibly relate this to is when i upgraded from 2.0 to 2.5 but now
as 2.6 running  ???  >:( :(  :'(

Is your background music folder different to your library folder?
Could it be a conflict between the two libraries?
It's all I can think of ????
Title: Re: search problem
Post by: jukejohn on November 22, 2011, 07:27:54 PM
i think the only way around this is to reformat the drive delete the partion [d] were the
music is and just do it as one drive so when a fresh instal of vjb creates the sample c/jbp
ill just put all my music in there means useing a full afternoon which is tight to spare
at the moment so if anybody could think of things to try please do so might save me
a afternoons work
this just doesnt seem logical to me

John

You dont need to reformat or delete partitions to clean your system of Videobox.

1.backup your license

2. uninstall Videobox

3.clean your Appdata folder of folders named 'Videobox' ( c:\Users\yourusername\Appdata\Local\), delete any folders named 'Videobox'.

4. re-install Videobox

Is there no way of building in a way of auto cleaning the 'appdata' when an unistall is performed? I think a lot of people's problems that occur in VBX are due to this. Lets be honest, some people do not understand computers as well as others, and are used to using windows to perform all their tasks. Searching for appdata folders and deleting the correct files, sounds easy to us, but to others it may sound complex??? any thoughts?

Hi Rob

Unfortunatly we cant allow VBX to remove any files that it did not create, the cached files in the appdata folder are created by the Windows operating system, as such we cant mess with them, all I can do is advise anyone wanting to remove them manualy.

To be fair the settings stored in the appdata folder dont cause any harm that cant be undone by just changing your settings again in VBX after install.

I think I understand. So the VBX re-writes these files when you change them in the settings menu, even after a new install without removing old cached files?

Writing software at school on an old bbc computer was childs play. So glad I chose a different path after leaving all those years ago.

ok got it all running again however the search is poor i easily get abba- elvis- but not elvis presely
if i do beatles i get 2 hits to say theres about 10 albums of the beatles dont get it
if i do the beatles which this is how there tagged it comes up nothing found
how can this be when artist/bands that are there it seems to be a bit hit and miss and
all tagged properly
im dont use search normaly i do album selection mainly i only come across this
a few days ago and as far as im aware my folder structures are spoton like ive
allways done for years  ???

Hi John

How are yout tracks 'tagged' ?.

Title: Re: search problem
Post by: jukejohn on November 25, 2011, 02:48:08 PM
using tag&rename idv3 and rename files artist title the same way as your file fixer does
Title: Re: search problem
Post by: Steve on November 25, 2011, 03:16:24 PM
John

There's your problem, Videobox doesnt search idv3 tags, never has!, it searches your filename.
Filename Fixer does not rename tags, you got it all backwards, it takes your tags and renames your file from the tag artist and title.

I think you could have saved yourself tons of time and energy by just reading the manual ?.  ;D

Title: Re: search problem
Post by: jukejohn on November 25, 2011, 03:34:13 PM
no you got me wrong i have used tag n rename to rename the files

i know vjb works with file names not tags i understand that and i had to use tag rename
because filefixer will not work on my laptop did for a short while and stoped opening up
with windows error twice this as happened even when i reformated after a couple of weeks
it wouldnt worked and stoped again  maybe its windows updates virus protection or just a conflict with some
other software i dont know its ashame as filefixer is a nipy program

Ok,

Can you give an example track filename and the search term that when entered does NOT find that track.

One thing at a time John  :P, you need to answer my previous question if you want me to help you get to the bottom of your search problem.

Its best to start a new topic in the apropriate board if you want to talk about Filename Fixer.

Lol, what does the above mean ??????, cant make head or tails of it  ::).

What I'm asking you is:- what is the exact filename you are trying to find ?, eg "Elvis  Are you lonesome.mp3"

and

What are you typing into the search box to find that track ?, eg "lonesom"

Title: Re: search problem

urgh  :D just looked myself and i wrote it and even i i cant make sense of it and im sober  ;D
must be the stess of it all  ;D

anyhow all i can tell you is when i search for some artists/bands there not found

if i type elvis i get 2 tracks only and there is a few file named elvis albums loaded
this is just a example of whats happening and if you cant understand this then i
give up and ill just live with it  ::)

Just chill fella  ;D, dont let it get to you, its suposed to be fun  :D

All you need to do is tell me 2 simple things...

the exact filename you are trying to find ?, for example "Elvis  Are you lonesome.mp3"

and

What are you typing into the search box to try and find the track

Dunno what to say then John, if you are unable to post the information I asked you for I cant see how I can diagnose your issue.

I know for sure that there has never been any problems with the search feature in either Videobox or Juke Blaster Pro.

My best guess is that you are inputing a search term that does not exist in your music files, or you may be in some way misunderstanding how the search feature works.

Title: Re: search problem

100% this problem is down to the file name John.

I had a similar issue when I first started with VBX. My files were improted from elsewhere, and the filenames were not uniformed. What I have since done is load the discs into my machine again and set up windows rip settings better. I now ensure that the file name has spaces instead of underscores ie. abba_dancing_queen etc.

I have not used the file organisers that the guys rave about, but I am pretty sure they would be doing the same thing.

Not to teach you how to suck eggs or be an arsehole, but the file names are THE most improtant thing about setting up and updating VBX. If you don't have a uniform approach to adding files then you will end up with the problem you have indicated.
