I can add images to the main title cards (Genres) but I can't add the title cards for the sub genres (say band names)

Hmm, I don't understand, what do band names have to do with sub-genres ?...
What tagger program are you using ?

It's the way I've setup mu folder for example:
Metal/ Iron Maiden
Metal/ Metallica

So Metal would be the genre and then the band name would be the sub genre
